If you could describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
Caring, positive, and motivated.
When were you first introduced to Erno Laszlo and how?
I was first introduced to Erno via a PR company in New York. At the time, the Erno Laszlo Institute was still open (which was a dream!) and I got the best facial of my life. From there, I was HOOKED!
What does Erno Laszlo mean to you?
Erno means beautiful skin in its simplest form.
Favorite Erno Laszlo product?
That’s easy - the Hydra-Therapy Memory Sleep Mask!
What does a typical day look like for you at work?
Now that I’m full-time blogger, a typical day varies. But normally it includes a morning workout + coffee run, followed by email and admin, a shoot in the afternoon, followed by meetings and an event in the evening.
What is one piece of advice you would give others trying to get where you are today? Collaborate with others! Networking and meeting people is so key in any business - it’s through collaboration and supporting others that we are able to really grow and innovate.
What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about your job?
I think people would be surprised to hear that there is an entire business side to blogging that people don’t see. The emails, the admin, the negotiation, the campaign reporting and collaborating that goes on behind the scenes is a lot of work. Instagram can create a bit of a facade when it comes to this.
Tell us about your relationship with skincare. Where did it start? How has it evolved?
I grew up on the beach. I’d say before age 18, I wasn’t aware of how damaging the sun can be for your skin. I definitely have sun damage from when I was young, but in college I started taking really good care of my skin. Since then I’ve always been a skincare junkie, but it was taken to a new level when I started blogging. I then felt like I had more of a purpose in terms of sharing my skin tips, and the brands that I loved with my audience. I’ve learned SO much from the skincare brands that I’m lucky enough to collaborate with, and have found products that I stand by (Erno being a top pick of course!) and that have helped change my skin for the better.
Best beauty advice your Mom/Grandma/Aunt, etc. shared with you?
HYDRATE! It can’t be emphasized enough just how important it is for your skin. I’m happy I learned this from my mom from a young age.
What is your skincare/beauty guilty pleasure/confession? (We won't judge!)
I pluck my mustache hairs!!! It can take forever!!! My skin is too sensitive to wax, and I haven’t given into laser yet.
Walk us through your typical morning and evening skincare routine. How and why does it differ on a daily basis?
Morning routine is a gentle cleanser, followed by toner, vitamin C serum, hyaluronic acid serum, sunscreen, and then makeup if I have a shoot or a meeting to go to. Evening is makeup remover, double cleanse (by Erno Laszlo!), hyaluronic acid serum (clearly obsessed), and my Hydra-Therapy Memory Sleep Mask. My routine may change if there’s makeup involved because those days my skin needs a deeper cleanse and toning routine. What never changes is sunscreen; I don’t leave home without SPF 45 on my face!
Do you have a skincare/beauty hack to share?
I put my eye masks in the fridge - they help to rid my face of puffiness. I also stand by a facial massage. I do this everyday and it really helps to awaken your entire face and get the circulation going.
Describe your standard beauty routine. How does it differ from daytime to evening?
Daily beauty routine is facial massage followed by a shower and skincare routine in the morning. Then I’ll do my makeup and refresh my hair with dry shampoo. (I only wash my hair 2-3 times a week max.). I always follow up with Aquaphor on my lips and a lipstick or gloss, depending on what I have going on that day. It differs from evening in the sense that I’ll perhaps use a primer on my face to help my makeup last longer and a more intense or bold lip!
You’re stranded on a deserted island and can only bring 5 skincare/beauty products. What are they?
Erno Laszlo Hydra-Therapy Memory Sleep Mask
Sunscreen (I love Elta!)
Aquaphor Lip Ointment
Beauty oil (that I can use on my hands, cuticles, face and body)
Who is your #1 beauty icon?
Julia Roberts! She is such a timeless beauty, and we share the same last name :)
You snoozed your alarm and only have time to brush your teeth and do one step in your skincare/beauty routine? What is it?
The beauty (and fashion!) space is constantly evolving. What are your thoughts on its current status and how that impacts you as a woman? What do you wish this space would continue to improve on?
Unfortunately, we’re in a space right now where social media can bring a lot of negativity and create comparison games among women. My hope is that we all come together to build eachother up, support, and celebrate each one of us rather than wishing we were someone we aren’t.
What does beauty mean to you? When do you feel the most beautiful?
To me, beauty means being in my most raw form...at home with no makeup in a sports bra, and no pressure to take a perfect photo. This is when I feel most beautiful and comfortable.
We’re trying to create a space where we own our insecurities (since we all have them) instead of hiding them. What’s one of your insecurities? How do you deal with it?
My teeth! I never had braces and I have spaces that you can see on the sides. I just tell myself what my mom tells me, it gives me character. Ha!
What’s one thing that you love about yourself and why?
I love my lips! Growing up, this wasn’t the case - I was insecure about my larger lips as a kid. Flash forward, it’s now an asset and a huge part of my personal brand.
