In honor of Earth Day, our CEO Charles Denton shares his thoughts on the importance of going green and what we as a company are doing to play a part in protecting our beautiful planet. Read his letter below!

Happy Earth Day from all of us at Erno Laszlo. We are concerned about the ever-present news of our planet’s destruction and have been examining how our company can help the world become a bit more green. After years of testing, innovating, and developing with our team, I’m thrilled to announce today that our brand will be sustainable and clean by the end of 2020.

There are many ways to define clean and sustainable. We’ve elected to go with Sephora’s Clean guidelines , a standard we hope other brands will join us in aiming for in the coming years.

The world has changed tremendously since Dr. Erno Laszlo launched our brand in 1927 and began treating Hollywood icons like Marilyn Monroe. Our products have evolved as well, but we recognize that we still have some changes to make. By the end of 2020, we can promise that all Erno Laszlo products will be made with clean ingredients.

But you don’t have to wait until 2020 for green skincare products from Erno Laszlo. On May 1, we’re introducing our very first product with a fully clean formula. We’re excited to join the world of clean skincare now as we work toward our goal of being completely clean by the end of next year.

But it’s not just our products. This new approach is multidimensional. Not only are we cleaning up our formulations, but we’re also taking action to make sure our offices are green. One measure that we’ve already taken is to institute “Work From Home Wednesdays"; we’ve been doing this since August 2018. This has two environmental effects: fuel usage is minimized, alongside electricity/water usage in our office buildings.

Additionally, at our offices in New York and Shanghai, we’re recycling everything we can, going paperless, and creating challenges for our teams to be as green as possible. We’re installing eco-conscious lighting, adjusting thermostats, and switching to compostable paper goods wherever possible. We’re working to create a culture of sustainability that I hope our team members will take with them to their own homes and families.

Since I joined Erno Laszlo in 2011, we have focused more on philanthropic efforts related to two main initiatives: environmental efforts and empowering women. We’ll continue to support both causes, but we plan to make an additional effort to support environmental causes throughout the year.

Overall, our goal is to ensure that our brand meets the needs of the modern consumer without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own. We want to leave this planet in better shape than it was when we found it. We encourage all of you to do the same.

What kind of changes are you making this Earth Day? I’d love to hear from you. I look forward to continuing to share Erno Laszlo’s plans as we push toward our goal of being a clean and sustainable brand by the end of 2020.
