Go deep. Our iconic Laszlo-original Cleansing Bar boasts the uniquely therapeutic benefits of Dead Sea mud, a mineral-rich miracle of nature, to deeply detoxify, exfoliate and hydrate skin. Perfect for blemished or stressed out complexions, this circulation-boosting bar leaves skin soft, smooth and radiant thanks to:

  • Dead Sea mud—boasting 26 minerals and its signature black color that transforms to white foam—to protect and restore skin’s own mineral levels.

  • Glycerin, a powerful moisture magnet, to attract and hold hydration for a more moisturized, glowing complexion.

  • Both palm and palm kernel oils to help regulate skin’s own oil content while reinforcing its defenses against outside stressors, as it ramps up cell turnover beneath the surface.

Be in the know:
Our Cleansing Bars boast the highest concentration of powerful skincare actives. In addition, some of our bars rely on advanced nano-encapsulation technology to deliver time-released spheres able to penetrate skin’s surface allowing active ingredients to work even longer than conventional cleansers. Plus, contrary to popular belief, Cleansing Bars are inherently unfriendly environments to microbes that only grow on food sources (such as your skin’s sebum oil.) Translation: as soon as the bar touches your skin, it begins to combat the oil that bacteria thrive on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not The Classic Sea Mud Soap I have been using Erno Laszlo since the early 1970's! At that time you had to have a membership card to even qualify to purchase the products. Through the years all the formulas have changed until you cannot recognize the products. This soap, and many of the other products are a pale reflection of the "old" ones and I am terribly sad about it. Where are all the wonderful skin improving ingredients? This is just soap with charcoal! Even the wonderful classic scent is gone. Would I recommend that someone pay $$$ for this? NO! The old classic formulas were worth every penny. When I wash with this soap my sink and face are covered in black film. The old soap NEVER did that!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I wish is that I knew about Erno Laszlo 20 years ago After years of trying every (EVERY) product at the pharmacy, department stores, dermatologist, I tried this facial bar in April 2016. I haven't bought another product/brand since. I noticed a dramatic difference in my skin within a week. I use the Phelityl Pre-Cleansing Oil first, which just works for my skin. Do not be intimidated by the video showing the routine- its not hard or time consuming. And its not expensive- buying new products every few weeks is expensive! I looks years younger, my skin is brighter, and my only wish is that I knew about Erno Laszlo 20 years ago. I recommend it to everyone who asks about my improved complexion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Cleanser Ever I have been using this soap since 1987 and there is no other cleanser--soap or otherwise--that can match it. The look, the smell, the feel of it in your hand, the way it exfoliates and cleanses 100% of everything off of your face & out of your pores--makeup, oil, grime-- without drying. Yet it somehow also manages to reduce breakouts and clogged pores. I use it once/day and the bar lasts me about 1 year! How can you beat the price with all that it offers and how long it lasts? Even though my skin is a little less oily than it was, and breaks out a little less than it did, 25 years ago, this soap still works just as effectively for me. The best, period.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Formula I had admittedly been away from the Laszlo ritual for a bit, and decided to return, starting with the cleansing products. I opened my first shipment of Sea Mud soap expecting that familiar fragrance and it's changed completely. Is this a new formula or just a fragrance change? Please go back to the old fragrance if possible, this new one is unpleasant. My star ratings are based on the previous experiences I had with sea mud soap. I am hoping that the formula has remained the same, it has been iconic for so many decades I honestly never expected a change in the Sea Mud.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must-have My first time purchasing this soap after falling in love with other EL products and I can definitely say it's going to be a staple. It does everything it states and more. I have normal/combination skin that's also prone to dryness so I hesitated on this for a while but am SO glad I purchased. It doesn't dry out your skin. Instead it provides a most thorough cleansing, plus exfoliation, even moisture, and it's the only soap that I can actually say has made a difference in pore size. I came back for more products including the matching cleansing oil after this and also love their hydrogel masks. So luxurious. Highly recommend!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Seam Mud Soap Not the same... I have been using Erno Laszlo since 80s. My mom introduced me when i was a teen. Saddened that soap does not have the old wonderful fragrance nor is it the same thickness...Makes me question if its the same ingredients. Also the cleasning ritual has changed...use to be splash with warm and cold water. Much disappointed with the change...

Rated 2 out of 5 by from No longer as good!! The first Erno Laszlo product I used when I was first introduced to the line years ago was the Sea Mud Soap. I loved it — the quality, the size, the smell — it was wonderful. Best of all, it helped cure my acne and made my skin glow. Unfortunately, that version of the Sea Mud Soap is no more. The current bar offered is a pale descendant of the original. Though it still does keep my face relatively clear, the results are just not the same. The soap is now way smaller and comes in an inconvenient case. The quality is not nearly as good and it loses that solid bar feel after a week or so. Also, it seems to have less sea mud in it (and more charcoal), and, worst of all, it leaves a black residue in my sink (something that the original never did)! I never thought I would stop using this product, but alas, I have. PLEASE bring back the original formula and size as created by Dr. Laszlo!! PS — One bar used to last months, now it barely lasts five weeks.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No star power I began using Laszlo in 1975, for adult acne. The oil/black soap regiment was a miracle for my skin. Why oh why did you change the formula and size of the soap? And why are you advising a different regiment? I realize you're trying to attract the younger group, so why not have a "legend" group of products for those of us who grew up with the originals? I hope you will bring back the originals because I won't allow my granddaughters to use's not the same!

Do you think this product would benefit a man if used by itself? My husband has problems with his skin and it’s very oily. I just can’t see him using the cleansing oil or anything else besides soap.

Asked by: Sweet Pea
Yes, I think it really benefits oily skin. My skin was so oily it looked wet and it really helped.

I currently use the Oil Control bar and I love it. I can’t see it available anymore, is this being replaced with the Sea Mud bar?

Asked by: MNizz
I have oily skin and have so for all my life. Someone that I knew in the late 70's introduced me to Erno Lazlo and I have used the their product since then and found the sea mud soap important to my daily life. O shave with the sea mud soap lather and have no ikon conditions as a result. I am a firm believer in the Lazlo product line and as I grew older I have appreciated their value!!!! Sea Mud Soap might be your answer. RN

hi, can i leave the facial wash as a mask for 10minutes?

Asked by: erica
The sea mud deep cleansing bar if used as directed with the Laszlo technique will leave your skin feeling clean and refreshed.  Then follow with your toner.  I have also used the detoxifying mask which is wonderful but I find that if you cleanse twice a day you don’t need it.  Been a customer almost 32 years, stick with the regime.

Whatever happened to the '40 splashes of water' in the cleansing ritual? I have just begun using Erno Lazlo products again after many years away.

Asked by: Willis
If you like doing the classic 40 splashes and are seeing positive skin results you can continue doing that. The main importance is to ensure you rinse off all of the cleanser.

Is this soap good for sensitive skin?

Asked by: Caligirl
It is good for sensitive/acne prone skin. Depending on your needs, we recommend pairing it with either the Detoxifying Cleansing Oil or the Sensitive Cleansing Oil (or even using one for day and the other at night).

Is there a larger bar?? WHY did they change from the regular larger bar? Have they ever changed the formula? If so, how often do they change the formula?

Asked by: LAS-ALF
Yes .. I’ve wondered why they changed. I have been using Erno since I was 17 years old. I’m 48 now. I often get told my face is so youthful looking or ageless. Maybe some of that is hereditary but I believe Erno Laszlo has had a big part in helping my skin feel amazing. Back to the question .. my bar used to be bigger... I will always use Erno..

Are the 30 splashes of water still part of the "cleansing ritual" or even still recommended in order to see the full results from the products? The product line & ritual has been pared down quite a bit from 20 yrs ago when I first used it. Why the chang

Asked by: skincare junkie
I have been a Laszlo, user since 1978.  I still splash my face 30 times with the sea mud soap.  I also noticed that the size of the bar has been pared downquite a bit.
